2014 Grey Cup

Regina Financial Advisor

Chris Worby a Trusted Regina Financial Advisor talks about some things he finds interesting leading up to the 2014 Grey Cup.

November 26, 2014
I read an article about the 2014 Grey Cup that was really interesting and I thought it would be worth looking at as it relates to other things.

Did you know…
The last time the Ticats won the Grey Cup was in ’99 in Vancouver against Calgary?

I think this is interesting because we often look to see trends and think they will repeat. I don’t think anyone thinks that a 15 year old statistic will lead to victory for the Ticats but we often take 3 data points and consider it a trend. In ‘investment land’ we often use the 5 year track record of an investment and think it will repeat over the next 5 years. Often, this is very wrong and a very dangerous way to evaluate investments.

Did you know…
All 3 of Kent Austin’s head coaching seasons in the CFL will have him showing up in the Grey Cup?

Regardless of how people from Saskatchewan feel about Austin, he is clearly an excellent athlete and coach. Personal feelings often get in the way but true excellence abides and will always rise to the top. Fortunately for Saskatchewan, his team lost last year and may not win again this year but when you do something well, you’ll always get a good result.

Did you know…
At the time of writing, the Grey Cup isn’t sold out?

For those of us in Saskatchewan the idea of a non-sold out game is kind of crazy. The BC Lions are not in the game and, surprise, surprise, no one from BC wants to go. But it does go to show that if you don’t have skin in the game, you are less likely to show up when it counts.

2014 might not be as exciting a Grey Cup as 2013 (Go ‘Riders!) but it’s still the peak of the game for Canada.

Guaranteed if the ‘Riders were in it, the stadium would be sold out though!
